Tips to Elevate Your Summer Shindig

Tips to Elevate Your Summer Shindig

Summer is a time for rest, relaxation and recounting moments with close friends while enjoying the great outdoors and a great cocktail. So whether you’re hosting a decadent dinner party, or simply a summer soirée, follow these few rules to make it a hit.

ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere is everything. What’s the first step to bringing your summer fun to life? Shedding a little light. String lights or hang paper lanterns for instant ambiance. The soft lighting makes guests feel welcome and gives your space a nice glow. Next, add a pop of color by placing oversized pillows in bright colors and fun patterns. Don’t forget to turn up the tunes. We recommend a healthy mix of energetic and laid back tracks that are quiet enough that people have no problem talking, but upbeat enough to keep the party on a crescendo.

PESTS

No, we’re not talking about needy guests; we’re talking about those pesky mosquitoes that always seem to put a damper on the day. Thankfully, there are some simple solutions to keeping the bugs at bay. First, ensure there is no standing water. Be sure to empty out the kiddie pool, rain gutters and any excess water pooled at the base of your flowerpots. Second, we’re big fans of, well, fans. Mosquitoes are very weak flyers, so by setting up some small fans around the party, you’ll be sure to keep airflow up, while also keeping your guests cool. And last, it’s always a bright idea to light some citronella candles. Mosquitoes hate them, which is why we absolutely love them.

SEATING

Making sure you have enough seats for your guests can seem like a daunting task, but not if you change your definition of “patio furniture.” Don’t be afraid to grab dining room chairs or barstools. Or, if you’re keeping things casual, feel free to lay blankets on the ground.

SERVING

Contrary to popular belief, you can host a party and enjoy it, too! Prepare foods that maintain quality at room temperatures, like bruschetta and potato salad, or offer up snacks like chips and fresh garden salsa, fruit, a charcuterie board, etc. Allow guests to refresh their drinks by keeping your bar in a cooler of your choosing. Put drinks on ice in something unique, like a wheelbarrow, antique tub or planter.

There you have it: the secrets to throwing a spectacular summer shindig. As long as you keep these in mind, your party will be top-of-mind for the rest of the season.
